i wanna be a bear.

The other day fellow blogging lovely lady, Kittycat Stevens, left a comment on one of my posts in which I had talked about going out to trivia on a weeknight, saying basically, "It's cold! How are you out in public doing things?" I'm glad I have mindfreaked you guys into thinking that I am productive, but to be honest the early darkness and cold weather basically melts all my willpower away. Fact: Last night, Saturday night, I was in pajama bottoms before 7 PM and the idea of leaving the house sounded like the LAST thing I wanted to do.  [Tangent: Instead I ate Taco Bell and watched The Killing season 3. So Glamorous!] Life would be so much easier if I was a bear [Tangent: To clarify- in the animal sense...not the gay niche sense. ] because then I could hibernate and not be judged for my sloth.

It's almost as if I need to psych myself up to go out when it's chilly and if you add precipitation into the mix, count me out. I'm good here with my bottomless cup of coffee and fuzzy slipper boots. [Tangent: OK. I know last winter I broke my own cardinal rule and wore slippers in public. I have always been really frustrated when people, especially handicapped people did this. I had a rough winter 2012 so sue me. I vow to be better about wearing actual shoes this year. Please call me out on my behavior if I don't oblige.]

hot look.
This temporary hibernation is really not a secret. If you follow me on instagram, you are probably well aware that I have become a shut-in. Perhaps the sudden influx of pictures of Newman and the more than once a week photos of the TV during Family Feud are a dead giveaway that I am not getting out much. [Tangent: You are probably thanking your lucky stars I am not photographing my other not-at-all-guilty pleasures like Four Weddings, Long Island Medium and Secret Princes...basically anything on The Learning Channel that in no way involves learning. It's a sad state of affairs that I know all the family members in Theresa Caputo's family. If you don't know who Theresa Caputo is, then congrats on having some semblance of a life. ]

I'm going to be better and keep the hardcore hermitting at bay. I even bought a new cute and cozy jacket the other day which means I have no excuse not to go out and do stuff. Ugh. Just let it be known  that I don't like the cold and the premature holiday hustle and bustle scares the bejesus out of me. I can't be alone on this.

  1. i guess you fooled me! but i am right there with you on the precipitation— not no way, not no how! nick and i have been joking/talking a lot lately about our lack of going out, our introversion, and mostly how we are okay with it. we just like to be at home. if we don't cook we almost always pick up food to-go and then take it home. we hardly eat at the actual restaurant. it's loud, there are children screaming, you have to make small talk— ugh. it's like everything terrible all at one place.

i definitely recharge by being at home and away from people. if i am away too long i get anxious. the kicker for me in the colder weather is that i just want to be comfortable. nowhere but my own house is going to be the right temperature! restaurants, bars, movie theaters, other people's houses— always wrong.

i guess you can just call me goldilocks?! the hard part about being a recluse is making sure i'm spending some of this alone time on meaningful things like making art and learning new things and not veg-ing out to *too* many episodes of White Collar.

oh, and if you never wanna leave your house again, these are the legging i was talking about: http://www.target.com/p/mossimo-supply-co-junior-s-sweater-legging-assorted-colors/-/A-14693237#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=sweater+leggings+

    1. oh my god! Sweet lord! Those polka dot ones! They will be mine! I'm really trying to feel better about the public. The catch 22 is that I love winter clothes and boots and scarves and such...but if I sit around my house...I never wear them.

  2. Ha ha! I sold some Isotoner boots just like that a couple months ago! The indoor/outdoor.... well, I hate seeing those boots everywhere (everywhere!) when it gets one degree below 70 here in Texas so it was a no brainer for me to sell off a Christmas gift I knew I would never wear.
But as we've gotten our first real front this week, I have said at least 5 times "I wish I had those boots!" And now I see you in yours. And that makes it a little worse.

    1. I had these boots for probably a year before I wore them. I thought they were dumb looking...then as soon as I wore them once, they practically never left my feet...FOR MONTHS! Also, I know I vowed to not wear these in public...but I wore them to target today. OOPS!

  3. i don't know if you noticed my sweater boats at trivia last week. those have long been "in the house only" but that night was so cold and the idea of taking my feet out of them to put on different shoes just seemed unBEARable. (you see what I did there?)

    1. You got there before me...so I didn't see them, but maybe we should have a "dress like a shut-in party" I have many possible looks.

  4. How good is The Killing?!?!!! Hit me up when you finish season 3!!! Also, have you had your iron checked lately? I was feeling the same way (with ZERO ambition to do anything after work besides sit on the couch) and then I found out I'm anemic... Started an iron supplement and now I can do things like go to the grocery store in the evening! Just saying, our demographic seems to be lacking in iron. Hope you are doing well!!

    1. I'm obsessed! I watched the first 2 seasons...but my boyfriend did not...so I started him on season 3 to see if he liked it and he is HOOKED! I love it. I loved Holder and think it is hysterical that he is really from Switzerland or Norway or somewhere where they don't speak English because his accent is amazingly authentic. I am so sad that it got cancelled...just when I got so very into it!

  5. It's pouring and dark out, I think I'll join you in being a bear today. Much safer, Florida drivers go insane and drive faster when the roads are wet and dangerous for some reason... Enjoy hermitting, lots to be done inside for a blogger. Seriously ;)

    1. Yes, I always like to pretend I am at least being super productive...even though usually I am not.

  6. Re: your slippers. They look a lot like a lot of winter street-snuggy style footwear I see on every young thing scuffing down the street here. You're fine.

Re: hibernating. I'm so inclined unless I have company to go out with me. I'm happy to with my huz, but anything requiring my presence without him is way too daunting. Who would warm up the car for me, I ask?

Have a lovely Thanksgiving, Kimmie. You deserve a good one ... it HAS been a crappy year in many ways!

    1. Yeah they are actually warmer than most of my shoes, even with no socks...so that is 99% of the reason.
